Gabby Agbonlahor has told Celtic to re-sign Leigh Griffiths after his contract expired.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England forward claimed the Hoops cannot afford to lose both Odsonne Edouard and Griffiths in the same window.

New manager Ange Postecoglou confirmed in his first press conference last week (25 June), via BBC Sport, he had a good conversation with Griffiths and would make a decision when he has "all the information".

The 30-year-old is out of contract but the club have an option to extend his deal for another 12 months.

Celtic returned to pre-season training this week and Griffiths has not been pictured in training.

He has also removed any mention of Celtic in his Instagram profile.

Asked whether the 30-year-old deserves a new deal, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "I think he does, yes.

"With Edouard looking like he might leave you don't want to lose two strikers in the same window.

"I'd keep him for at least another year and say to him 'You're going to be the main guy this year.' Give him that love, he'll need that love.

"He can still definitely score goals because he's a quality player."

Griffiths scored seven goals in 26 games across all competitions last season but managed just seven starts in the Scottish Premiership.

The Scotland international managed just one start, a 3-0 win over Falkirk in the Scottish Cup, under interim manager John Kennedy after Neil Lennon resigned in February.
