Agbonlahor: I was wrong about Ben White amid 'absolutely dreadful' Arsenal claim

Gabriel Agbonlahor

Aston Villa legend Gabby Agbonlahor joined Football Insider's punditry team in November 2020. The Villans’ all-time leading Premier League goalscorer is loving life in the media spotlight and has no problem riling up supporters with his views - watch out Leeds fans! One of the most in-demand pundits at the moment, Gabby is also a regular on Sky Sports and talkSPORT.

Gabby Agbonlahor has admitted Ben White's recent performances for Arsenal have proved him wrong.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker also suggested White is now a right-back who will occasionally fill in at centre-back.

The 25-year-old was a regular in the heart of Arsenal's defence last term after his £50million move from Brighton & Hove Albion in the summer of 2021.

However, the emergence of William Saliba has forced him to shuffle across at right-back in Arsenal's new-look defence.

The Gunners have only conceded 10 goals all season and kept three clean sheets as they sit top of the Premier League table.

"I want to apologise to Ben White," Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

"I have given him a bit of stick recently, in the past year, but he's been outstanding at right-back.

"Nothing gets past him and he's decent on the ball as well.

"He could be one of those players that you look at and say he's a right-back now. Going forward, he's a right-back who can fill in at centre-back.

"Credit to Ben White because he's proved me wrong."

Arsenal are only a point clear of Man City at the top but their rivals travel to Anfield on Sunday (16 October) to face Liverpool.

The Gunners go to Elland Road to face Leeds United who are on a five game winless run on the same day.
