Agbonlahor issues warning to Newcastle United after source's Dominic Calvert-Lewin reveal
Gabriel Agbonlahor has issued a warning to Newcastle over the signing of Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa player claimed that the Everton striker's injury woes could put the Magpies off.
Newcastle have already signed goalkeeper Nick Pope, 30, on a four-year deal.
The club are also set to secure the signature of Sven Bottman from Lille.
According to Sky Sports (24 June) the Magpies have had a bid of £35million accepted for the Dutchman.
Calvert-Lewin signed for Everton in 2016 from Sheffield United and his contract is set to expire in 2025.
Despite some strong performances in 20/21, the striker struggled with injury problems last season.
When asked if he thought Newcastle could get away with not paying over the odds for the forward, Agbonlahor said: "They could do.
"I think what they're [Everton} asking would probably be too much for Calvert-Lewin.
"He was poor last season, injured a lot. I think with Callum Wilson's injury problems, Newcastle won't want to bring in Calvert-Lewin has injury problems as well.
"So I don't see that happening."
The forward played just 17 league games for Everton last season, as the Toffees struggled for survival.
Calvert-Lewin scored five goals and provided two assists for Everton in the 21/22 season.
