Frederic Guilbert has played his last game for Aston Villa, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Villa's record Premier League goalscorer delivered his verdict after Guilbert re-joined Strasbourg on loan.

The right-back returned to the Ligue 1 outfit for the remainder of the 2021-22 campaign on deadline day.

He spent the second half of last season on loan at the club after Matty Cash's arrival knocked him down the pecking order.

Guilbert's only game this season came when he scored in Villa's 6-0 rout at Barrow in the Carabao Cup last month.

The 26-year-old will have a year left on his Aston Villa contract when he returns to the Midlands next summer.

Asked whether he has a long-term future at the club, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "No.

"I think Aston Villa will have tried to get rid of him on a permanent, he didn't really play much.

"You've got Axel Tuanzebe there as cover for Matty Cash and Ashley Young as well.

"I'm sure they were trying to get rid of him on a permanent but maybe his wages and the fee that Villa want put clubs off. There have not been clubs knocking at the door.

"I don't see him playing again for Aston Villa. I see his future definitely being away from the club."

Guilbert featured 25 times in the 2019-20 Premier League campaign, including 23 starts, as Villa narrowly stayed up on the final day.

The former France Under-21 international scored once and provided four assists in 14 games for Strasbourg in his first spell at the club.
