Joe Gelhardt could be ready to make his Premier League breakthrough at Leeds United, according to Gabby Agbonlahor.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Aston Villa and England attacker claimed Jack Harrison and Daniel James' recent performances, as well as Raphinha's potential injury, could give Gelhardt a chance to impress.

The 19-year-old made his second Premier League appearance against Wolves at Elland Road at the weekend.

He was introduced from the bench with just less than half an hour to go with Leeds 1-0 down.

The England youth international forced Jose Sa into a fine save and won his side a penalty in the dying stages.

Rodrigo duly converted from the spot to earn the hosts a valuable point.

Asked whether Gelhardt is ready to make a real impact in the Premier League, Agbonlahor told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley: "Yes, I think he is.

"I watched little clips of him and he looked very good.

"Harrison came off at half-time, Daniel James, they've both not been doing it this season so why not give a youngster a chance?

"He's 19, he deserves a chance. Left-footed, runs at people.

"Raphinha looks like he might be out for a while with his ankle, that looked like a bad challenge.

"Sometimes this is where you get your chance as a youngster to make a name for yourself.

"He didn't look too intimidated, he looked very good. In the next Premier League game, especially against Norwich City, he might start."

Gelhardt moved to Leeds from Wigan Athletic last summer.

The Liverpool-born forward has scored 17 times in 23 Premier League 2 games for the Whites' Under-23s side.
