Everton target Lamine Kone will train with Sunderland on Wednesday and is available to play for his club on Saturday, his agent revealed on Tuesday night.

Sky Sports claim on their website that Kone was in Merseyside on Tuesday for talks over a move to Everton.

It is said by the broadcaster that Everton submitted an £18million bid for Kone more than a week ago and that discussions were centring on a deal for the centre-back to complete a move to Goodison Park.

But Mark McKay, Kone's agent, has revealed there is no formal deal in place for the 27-year-old defender to join Ronald Koeman's side.

"Lamine will train with Sunderland tomorrow morning and is available for selection for Saturday's Premier League opener against Man City," McKay, as quoted by Sky Sports' transfer centre blog.

"In the meantime Lamine still awaits the offer of a new contract from the club."

The Frenchman is under contract until 2020 at Sunderland, but there have been widespread reports that the north-east club would him an improved contract to fend off interest from Everton and other Premier League clubs.

The Paris-born defender has been a major hit on Wearside since his £6million switch from French club Lorient in January, playing a key role in Sam Allardyce's rescue mission as Sunderland managed to stave off relegation from the Premier League for a fourth successive season.

In other Everton transfer news, they have agreed terms for a midfielder who has signed a four-year contract.
