Alan McInally has criticised Swansea for their "disastrous" decision to sack Garry Monk.

The Sky Sports pundit claimed the Premier League club's freefall can be traced to their decision to axe Monk in November of last year.

Swansea dispensed with Monk just months after he had steered the club to their highest ever Premier League finish of eighth in his first managerial post.

The 37-year-old has continued to show he is one of British football's brightest young managerial talents by transforming the fortunes of Leeds this season.

Monk was appointed by the Yorkshire giants in the summer after replacing Steve Evans, who took the club to 13th last season, and has turned them into genuine promotion challengers.

By contrast, Swansea have subsequently dismissed two more managers, with Francesco Guidolin and Bob Bradley paying the price for poor results, and the club have handed Paul Clement the task of retaining their top-flight status.

"He must get at least £30m to spend but if he doesn't, they are going down,"McInally said on Monday, as quoted by the Sky Sports transfer blog on Monday (8.29pm)." How could they sack Garry Monk? [A year] on and it's an absolute disaster."

Leeds maintained their promotion surge earlier on Monday when they beat Yorkshire rivals Rotherham 3-0 at Elland Road.

Monk's team have accumulated a tally of 45 points from 25 Championship matches to consolidate their position of fifth in table.

Meanwhile, Swansea are 20th in the table following their 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth on Saturday, which left them deep in the relegation mire and four points adrift of safety.

In other Leeds news, this first-teamer will not be at the club next season after falling out with Monk.
