Alan Shearer has compared Tottenham sensation Delle Alli to club legend Glenn Hoddle.

The Premier League's all-time leading scorer says Alli reminds him of Hoddle and has the potential to emulate one of the greatest players in Spurs' history.

Alli scored a jaw-dropping goal in Tottenham's 3-1 win over Crystal Palace to extend his league tally to six in what has been a memorable debut top-flight campaign.

Ex-England star Shearer is among those who have been blown away by Alli's goal as well as his all-round performances this season.

"For his goal, the touch, technique and ability to not just get his shot on target but exactly where he wanted to - in the bottom corner - was outstanding," Shearer told The Sun. "I don’t want to put pressure on the 19-year-old but I remember a certain Tottenham No 10 with the same touch.

"Glenn Hoddle was a brilliant player, able to pass beautifully with his left and right foot, and score great goals - and there was something of him in that Alli effort.

"I loved the touch, the juggle, the swivel and turn — and then the hit. It was a special goal and you have to be a player with top technique to do that."

Midfielder Hoddle joined Tottenham as a schoolboy and spent 12 years as a player for the club before moving to Monaco in 1987.
