Andy Robertson 'lucky' to escape punishment as Liverpool controversy analysed - pundit
Paul Robinson has claimed Liverpool defender Andy Robertson was "lucky" not to be at least booked against Leeds United on Saturday.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs and England number one said the 28-year-old should have received a card for his altercation with Brenden Aaronson.
Robertson kicked the ball off Aaronson after fouling him at the end of the first half.
Leeds players reacted angrily to the incident but referee Michael Oliver chose not to show Robertson a yellow card.
The Reds defender also collided with goalkeeper Illan Meslier during the Premier League fixture.
Speaking on Sky Sports, as quoted by Anfield Watch (30 October), Jamie Carragher said it was "stupid" for Robertson to leave his foot in on the Whites shot-stopper.
When asked by Football Insider if Robertson was lucky to not be carded in the game, Robinson said: "Robertson was a lucky boy.
"He should have at least been given a yellow card.
"The moment with Aaronson was pre-empted. You can tell it was out of frustration and anger. His team were not playing particularly well and he took it out on his opponent. It was just out of pure frustration.
"You cannot step over the line in that way though. He was very lucky to no get at least a booking."
Liverpool lost 2-1 to Jesse Marsch's side at Anfield.
The Merseyside club are ninth in the Premier League table.
