Gabriel appeared to take a dig at Man City midfielder Rodri as the Arsenal man reacted to the latest update on Vinicius Jr.

Earlier this year, the Spaniard beat the Real Madrid attacker to the coveted Ballon d'Or award, which did not go down well with Vinicus or his club.

Vinicius though did get some major recognition of his own on Tuesday (17 December) when he was named the FIFA Best Men's Player of the Year for 2024, which seemingly pleased Gabriel.

Taking to his Instagram story to react to that news the Arsenal centre-back sent a message to the Real Madrid star which when translated reads: "you deserve it brother!"

Football Insider Opinion

It is perhaps no surprise to see that Gabriel has given his full support to Vinicius Jr in winning this award after missing out on the Ballon d'Or.

The two players are of course international teammates with Brazil, so it makes sense the Arsenal man is revelling in the success of someone he will know well.

Arsenal

Of course, the Gunners have found themselves competing with Man City and Rodri for the Premier League title in the last couple of seasons too.

So with the rivalry that has developed there Gabriel may also enjoy seeing one of his teammates - even an international one - getting the win here.

For Rodri, recovering from his own serious injury - picked up against Arsenal themselves earlier this season - to get back and help his struggling side is no doubt taking precedent for him at the minute.

Even so, lines like this may add a little bit of insult to injury for the Spaniard amid everything going at the minute.
