Arsenal have leapfrogged Newcastle United in the race for Fenerbahce sensation Arda Guler, sources have told Football Insider.

But Arsenal are now believed to be the most interested English club in the race for the attacking midfielder, who has been dubbed the ‘Turkish Messi’ following his breakthrough in the 2022-23 campaign.

The Gunners are now seriously exploring a deal for Guler amid huge competition from European giants Barcelona and Ajax.

He is one of the most sought-after young players in world football and enhanced his growing reputation with a stunning goal in Turkey's Euro 2024 qualifier win over Wales last week.

Guler made his senior debut at Fenerbahce in August 2021 but has made his mark for the Turkish giants in the 2022-23 campaign.

He notched six goals and seven assists across 35 appearances in all competitions and lifted the Turkish Cup earlier this month.

The attacking midfield sensation signed a fresh three-year deal at the Istanbul giants last year (2022), keeping him at the club until June 2025.

Despite his tender age, Guler has already made four appearances for Turkey's senior side - making his debut against the Czech Republic last year.

Arsenal are expected to be extremely active in this summer's transfer window, with manager Mikel Arteta admitting the Gunners must strengthen if they are to win the Premier League title in the 2023-24 campaign.
