Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain will be sidelined for up to two months, Arsene Wenger confirmed on Tuesday.

The Arsenal midfielder suffered knee ligament damage in the club's Champions League defeat to Barcelona last Tuesday.

Wenger admitted he feared the worst after the medical team received the test results of a scan on Oxlade-Chamberlain's knee.

But a specialist has confirmed the England international will not require surgery and, as revealed by Football Insider last week, the player will be out until the end of April.

"He will be out for six to eight weeks but he won’t need surgery,” said Wenger at his media briefing on Tuesday. "We feared he would need surgery when we saw the scan but in the end it is good news."

In other Arsenal team news, the manager said he will be "cautious" with Danny Welbeck ahead of a series of fixtures starting with Wednesday's Premier League clash against Swansea.

The striker has played four matches, scoring two goals, in a short space of time after 10 months out with a knee injury.
