Aston Villa have beaten three Premier League giants to the signing of Bury wonderkid Jacob Bedeau, according to a report.

The Birmingham Mail claim the Midlands giants have staved off competition from elite trio Manchester United, Liverpool and Manchester City to land the defender, 17.

It is said that Villa will land the highly rated youngster and he is set to go into their development squad.

There has been speculation that Bedeau could return to League One outfit Bury on loan for the remainder of the season but the Mail report that is "unlikely".

It claims that the teenager has made an "extraordinary rise" over the last few months after being released by League Two side Leyton Orient last season.

Bedeau has excelled in his fleeting appearances for Bury, with his first-team appearances amounting to seven.

Football Insider verdict:

Bedeau is a player for tomorrow, not today. He has been identified as a potential star of the future and must learn the ropes before being considered ready for the first team. Villa's recruitment team will deserve great credit if the teenager makes smooth progress, given the calibre of the clubs linked with prising him from Bury. It could just turn out to be one of the club's best pieces of business this month.
