Liverpool are in the hunt to sign Valencia sensation Ferran Torres, according to Guillem Balague.

The Sky Sports Spanish pundit and transfer expert claimed in a column for the broadcaster that the Merseyside giants are keeping close tabs on the right winger, 18.

Balague reports that the super-quick Torres has a release clause of £21.9million inserted into his contract, which runs until 2020.

He has emerged from the youth ranks at the Spanish club, playing in six of the last seven matches and 11 in total this season.

"Quite clearly Valencia want to keep him. They renewed his contract until 2020 and put in a buyout clause of 25m euros, but Liverpool and others are keeping a close eye on him," Balague told Sky Sports.

"He is a dribbler, fast on the wing, can play on either wing, and he has got ability and intelligence. He can also play inside if needed, so he is a modern winger."

Football Insider verdict:

Given his age, Torres is one for the future rather than the present, and Liverpool have a couple of decent wingers already on their books. But the Spaniard - who shares the surname of one of the Merseysiders' greatest-ever imports - clearly is a rising star in his homeland and it is understandable why he has been flagged up by Liverpool scouts. A right-winger by trade, he can play in any of the three positions behind the main centre-forward and has excellent technical ability. The big hurdle for Liverpool, apart from the release clause, would be persuading the Spain Under-19 international to leave Valencia, where he is already making a first-team impression.
