In among the usual talk of injuries and team news, Rafa Benitez said something in his pre-match press conference today that will make Newcastle fans giddy with excitement.

There's been plenty of speculation about the future of Benitez, with Mike Ashley still clinging onto power despite all the solid talk of takeovers.

With Ashley at the helm Benitez is never going to be given the sort of support in the transfer market that the club needs.

The big question for Newcastle fans is how much can Benitez take?

If he left, the club would fall to pieces and the loyalty he is showing the side should ensure lifetime legend status.

It looks like he's going to keep Newcastle in the Premier League for next season and the summer window will be rife with rumours.

Newcastle fans will hope it's also more fruitful than January when, despite a host of players being linked, only a couple of loan deals were done.

However, there is renewed hope that Benitez will be staying and will be buying, after he confirmed that he had talked to managing director Lee Charnley about the future.

Benitez is focused on the here and now of Premier League survival but plans are already in place for the future.

Managers are very careful with their words and this doesn't sound like Benitez is going anywhere.

Speculation will persist until he sits down the Newcastle board and confirms his future is at St James' Park, but in a season when Newcastle fans have had little to cling to, this is an absolute godsend.
