Rangers and Celtic are in the running to sign Manchester City midfielder Yaya Toure in the summer transfer window, according to the latest bookmakers' odds.

BetVictor have opened the market on who Toure, 34, will play for next as he is due to end his eight-year long stay at the Etihad in a matter of weeks when his contract expires.

Old Firm rivals Rangers and Celtic are listed among the potential next clubs for the Ivory Coast international, with them both being priced at 16/1 in the running.

Any MLS club (4/1) appears to be the most likely move for Toure, who according to the Daily Star, earns £100,000-a-week on his deal at Manchester City.

Football Insider verdict

There's very little chance of this happening in the summer transfer window. Toure's wage demands will probably quadruple what Rangers and Celtic's best players are earning at the moment and there's no way that the two rivals would sanction such a risky move. Toure has not played a lot this season and he has really started to slow down as a player. He has made 16 appearances in all competitions, but has not earned a single start in the Premier League as Man City have romped to the title with ease. What looks most likely for the Ivorian midfielder now is either a move to the MLS or the Chinese Premier League. Clubs in those leagues would be willing to pay big wages to have a household name in their squad, even though he is well past his best. Steven Gerrard will attract some big names to Ibrox this summer - but Toure will not be one of them.
