Celtic are in the running to sign Chelsea great John Terry in the forthcoming transfer window, according to the latest bookmakers' odds.

Sky Bet have priced the Scottish giants at 16/1 to land the Premier League icon before the 3 September transfer cut-off.

Given Celtic's financial constraints compared to top-flight English clubs and the wealthy teams of the MLS and China, which are popular outposts for leading players at the end of their careers, it is a short price.

But the betting is no doubt partly a consequence of the links between Terry and Parkhead manager Brendan Rodgers, who worked with the former England captain during his time at Stamford Bridge as reserve team manager.

Sky Bet make Bournemouth the 13/8 favourites to sign Terry, ahead of West Brom (3/1), any MLS club (5/1), any Chinese club (8/1), West Ham (8/1) and Arsenal (8/1).

Chelsea confirmed on their official website at the start of this week that the 36-year-old would leave the club when his contract expires in June.

Terry has taken a back seat under Antonio Conte this season, making just 10 appearances in all competitions after finding himself down the pecking order between back-three regulars Gary Cahill, David Luiz and Cesar Azpilicueta.

With Kurt Zouma and Nathan Ake waiting in the wings, the veteran defender has decided to call time on his association at Chelsea, where he is revered by the fans as one of the greatest players in the club's history.

Celtic are likely to be in the market for a new centre-back signing in the summer transfer window.

Kolo Toure and Efe Ambrose are both about to see their contracts expire in Glasgow, while there are doubts over the futures of Dedryk Boyata and Jozo Simunovic.
