Birmingham City have interviewed Frank Lampard about him becoming their new manager, sources have told Football Insider.

The former Chelsea and Everton boss impressed the League One club’s hierarchy and is now believed to be high on their shortlist to replace Tony Mowbray.

The 45-year-old has also spoken to Burnley as they look to source a replacement for Vincent Kompany after he left the club to become the new Bayern Munich manager.

The English boss is available on a free after being out of work since leaving his role as Chelsea caretaker manager at the end of the 2022-23 season.

Frank Lampard could replace Tony Mowbray as Birmingham manager

Lampard has endured a couple of challenging roles as a manager on the back of his illustrious playing career.

Since leading Derby County to the Championship play-off final in 2019, he’s been sacked by both Chelsea and Everton after recording little success in the Premier League.

Despite his 41.3 per cent win rate as a manager, Birmingham and Burnley are contemplating offering him another chance to prove his worth in the dugout.

Birmingham have been linked with several managers since it was confirmed Mowbray has stepped down from his role at St Andrew's to focus on his health.

Birmingham are looking to put the pieces in place to secure an instant return to the Championship, while the Clarets are aiming to bounce back following their relegation to the second tier.
