Lincoln City are set to have their resolve tested as Blackburn Rovers, Preston North End, and Oxford United plot moves to sign Paudie O’Connor, sources have told Football Insider.

The 27-year-old centre-back is out of contract next summer, and his suitors are ready to push the League One club to see if they will hang on to him in January.

O’Connor has established himself as one of the best centre-backs in the EFL, with the Irishman being effective in both boxes.

He has already scored two goals and provided two assists this season after six appearances in League One, showcasing his worth in an attacking sense.

O’Connor was named club captain at the start of the 2023-24 season and has kept the armband for this campaign as well.

The central defender joined the Imps in 2022 and has gone on to make 104 appearances for the club.

Lincoln City could lose Paudie O’Connor in January

The former Bradford City defender has a vast amount of experience in League One and League Two but has only played four times in the Championship throughout his career.

Despite that, three clubs in the English second tier are pushing to bring him in during the upcoming January transfer window.

O’Connor has been a pivotal part of Lincoln’s team this season, having only missed one of their seven League One fixtures.

Michael Skubala’s team are in the hunt for promotion this season and currently sit third in League One behind only Wrexham and Birmingham City.

The Imps will be back in action on Tuesday (1 October) against one of O’Connor’s former teams, Blackpool.
