Ex-Arsenal forward Xavier Amaechi is undergoing a Bolton Wanderers trial, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.

The England Under-20 international has been given the green light to leave German second-tier club Hamburg.

A Bolton source has told Football Insider that the club have taken Amaechi on trial as they plot a potential move.

The forward, 20, spent last season on loan at Karlsruher but struggled for game time.

He has a Hamburg contract that runs until 2023 but could now be set for a return to England two years after quitting Arsenal in a £2million deal.

Ameachi made five senior appearances during his time at Hamburg.

Though predominantly deployed as a right-winger, he is accomplished on the left flank too.

He has been capped by England across various age groups and his Under-20 debut came in October 2020.

The League One new boys have brought in four fresh faces in what has been a busy summer so far.

Oladapo Afolayan and Declan John signed permanently after spending the previous campaign on loan at the North West club.

Manager Ian Evatt has also recruited centre-back George Johnston and midfielder Josh Sheehan from Feyenoord and Newport County respectively.

Amaechi made just one league start among 11 appearances for Karlsrhuer in 2020-21.

Those appearances yielded two goals.
