Burnley are set to keep close tabs on Leeds United midfielder Mateusz Klich this season, Football Insider can reveal.

The Premier League club were keen on the Poland international, 29, during the summer and remain interested now he has entered the final year of his current United deal.

A Burnley source has told Football Insider the club will make regular checks on Klich through scouting missions over the coming months.

This comes after Football Insider revealed last week that Leeds have opened talks with Klich over a new contract.

They are keen to tie him to down to a long-term deal and avoid losing him on a free at the end of the season but his future could be up in the air if an agreement is not secured.

Burnley signed goalkeeper Bailey Peacock-Farrell from Leeds during the summer for a fee of £2.5million rising to a potential £3.5million.

Unlike the Elland Road academy product, Klich is an established member of Marcelo Bielsa's first team and has been a key player for club and country over the last 12 months.

The central midfielder has started all six of Leeds' Championship matches this season after a hugely productive 2018-19, when he scored 10 goals and supplied nine assists from 48 matches, all of them starts.

He also earned his 21th international cap in Poland's 0-0 Euro 2020 qualifier draw against Austria on Monday night.
