Campbell tells Tuanzebe to quit Man United and join Aston Villa - 'It's time'

Kevin Campbell has told Man United defender Axel Tuanzebe "it's time to go" as Aston Villa step up their interest.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Arsenal and Everton striker is adamant the "great" 23-year-old would get regular game time if he joined Dean Smith's side ahead of next season.

Villa are keen to add a centre-back with Premier League experience to their squad to provide competition for first-choice pairing Tyrone Mings and Ezri Konsa next season.

It is understood that Dean Smith's side have “concrete” interest in re-signing the versatile defender, who has one year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford.

Tuanzebe spent the 2018-19 campaign on loan at Villa Park and helped the club achieve promotion via the play-offs.

When asked by Football Insider's Dylan Childs for his assessment of the centre-half's future, Campbell said: "It's time to go.

"He needs to go and play football. These young men at the mega clubs are just playing sparingly and they need to go out and play. It is no use playing in the Under-23s at that age.

"Tuanzebe is a great player and he deserves to be playing regular football.

"I think he would get game time at Aston Villa. When he was on loan there they really liked him. It is time."
