Exclusive: Big update on Edouard future after new Celtic talks
Odsonne Edouard is ready to sign a new Celtic contract if the club bow to his demand for a release clause, Football Insider has learned.
The Scottish giants have fended off interest in their prize asset this summer after slapping a prohibitive £40million price tag on him to scare off suitors.
A Celtic source has told Football Insider that the club have made some progress in tying Edouard, 22, down to a bumper new deal.
New and constructive talks have taken place over a new deal that would see the French striker land a major pay rise and rocket to the top of the club's pay scales.
Tellingly, Hoops chiefs have indicated they will bow to Edouard's demand for a release clause allowing him to potentially leave at the end of what could be an historic season.
An agreement is not yet in place with the centre-forward and his camp but there is a growing confidence from all parties that a deal can be done.
That would be a huge boost for manager Neil Lennon as the team step up their 10-in-a-row challenge.
Edouard was named the Scottish Player of the Year after his sensational 2019-20 campaign and the early matches of this season have reinforced his significance to the team.
The striker scored a hat-trick in the opening-day win over Hamilton Academical and a further goal against KR Reykjavík in last month's Champions League qualifier.
But he was badly missed when injury kept him out of the 2-1 defeat to Ferencvaros that ended Celtic's Champions League dream for this season.
Edouard signed a four-year contract in the summer of 2018 when his initial season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain was converted into a club-record £9million transfer.
