Celtic fans have been left fuming after they were denied what looked to be a stonewall penalty in their 4-0 win v Kilmarnock.

Brendan Rodgers' side returned to competitive football with a dominant victory thanks to goals from Reo Hatate, Liam Scales, Nicolas Kuhn and Anthony Ralston.

However, the game was not without its controversy as the Hoops were denied a penalty when Robby McCrorie slammed into Kyogo Furuhashi in the box.

The incident was initially missed by the referee Don Robertson, but after reviews by Greg Aitken on VAR, the goalkeeper managed to go unpunished.

Footage of the penalty claim quickly went viral on social media, as controversy surrounding the level of officiating in Scotland ignited once more.

Despite a 4-0 win getting Rodgers' team off to the best possible start while Rangers dropped points v Hearts, supporters were still left raging.

A scooped free-kick over the top saw Kyogo knock the ball around McCrorie before being taken down, with fans and pundits alike agreeing they should have been awarded a penalty.

Fans took to social media where the incident was labelled "embarrassing", "outrageous" and a "disgrace" as they tried to make sense of the call.
