Celtic fans have been left raging at Graeme Souness after he called out Callum McGregor live on ITV following Scotland v Germany.

Souness was analysing the game after Scotland fell to a 5-1 defeat on the opening night of Euro 2024 when he referred to McGregor as "the Celtic captain" during his criticism.

Singling out the midfielder's club, with no mention of the clubs the likes of John McGinn or Ryan Porteous represent during their criticism, was deemed to be a cheap jab at the Hoops.

Souness, an icon at Old Firm rivals Rangers, has since denied that he was taking a swipe, but it has done little to calm the tempers of the Celtic support.

One fan branded his comments "derogatory" and "downright disrespectful".

Graeme Souness branded "bitter" after Celtic dig live on TV

It was an embarrassing night for Scotland given the extent and manner of the defeat on such a big stage, and Souness' dig further riled up the supporters.

His comment angered Celtic fans as they insisted the ex-Rangers man is "bitter", "broken" and "rattled" after they pipped Rangers to another SPFL title last season.
