Celtic have made big blunder as Brown edges closer to exit - Hutton
Celtic are "missing a trick" letting Scott Brown leave for Aberdeen this summer, according to Alan Hutton.
The former Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Bhoys needed the midfielder's experience to help with a "complete overhaul" ahead of next season.
The Hoops confirmed the 35-year-old will leave Parkhead to join Aberdeen as a player-coach at the end of the campaign.
Brown has spent 14 years at Parkhead and helped Celtic to 10 Premiership titles, six Scottish Cups and six League Cups.
He did fall out of favour under Neil Lennon earlier this season but has re-established himself as a mainstay among the starting XI.
He has made a total of 36 appearances across all competitions this term, with 20 league starts from a possible 33.
With Celtic set for a shakeup both on and off the pitch this summer, Hutton suggested the Bhoys could have done with keeping Brown around.
Hutton told Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge: "I think he's still got a lot to give with his experience, his know-how. He's still got the ability to play.
"I think you need those experienced players. People that know what the club's all about. He's a serial winner, he's won so many trophies at the club and he knows it inside and out.
"I think if you're having a complete overhaul of your squad, you still need that type of player to let the new ones know exactly what it takes to win.
"What you're coming up against, what you're going to face the pressure that you're going to be under to win week after week after week.
"I think they're missing a trick letting Scott Brown go. I think he's still got a lot to give within that team. He can pass on his knowledge to the new players coming in."
