Celtic youth cup hero Aidan McIlduff has been told to find himself a new club in the summer.

The left-back, 20, has told the Scottish Sun that he was informed a few weeks ago that he will be bombed out when his contract expires in June.

It is a shattering blow for the youngster, who has emerged through the Celtic youth ranks and has made a big enough impression to have been capped by Scotland at Under-18 level.

McIlduff revealed how Celtic head of youth development Chris McCart told him the painful news that he is considered not to be a future first-teamer at the club.

The left-back bounced back by delivering a man-of-the-match display and scoring one of the goals in Celtic's 3-0 Youth Cup final triumph against Rangers on Wednesday night.

“You have to enjoy nights like Wednesday and not take them for granted,"McIlduff explained to the Scottish Sun. “It’s been a tough couple of weeks for me, since I was told I’d be leaving.

“Chris McCart sat me down and basically said there wouldn’t be a first-team opportunity for me and that’s fine. I know that’s the nature of football.

“Part of me saw it coming and when Calvin Miller got his chance, playing out of position at left-back, I did wonder.

“Because I’ve been associated with Celtic for so long it’s obviously been hard to take but I know I need to use it as motivation to drive me on."

McIlduff, who has spent the second half of the season on loan at Queen’s Park, is drawing inspiration from the example of Andy Robertson, who has thrived since failing to make the grade at Celtic.

The Scotland left-back is coveted by the Premier League giants following his fine form for Hull in recent seasons.

McIllduff is convinced that he can still reach the heights despite his devastating blow at Parkhead.
