Celtic hero fears for Rangers as he mocks 'great' news from Ibrox

Rangers have the squad to fight on three fronts but their league form could still suffer.

That's according to former Celtic hitman Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Gers' title chances.

Rangers have one foot in the Europa League quarter-finals after beating Red Star Belgrade 3-0 on Thursday (10 March).

Should the Light Blues progress in Europe, and beat Dundee in Sunday's (13 March) Scottish Cup quarter-final, they will enter April fighting on three fronts.

McAvennie conceded Rangers have the squad to attempt success in each competition but suggested their league form is at risk of taking a hit.

"They have the squad to fight on three fronts, that's the thing," McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

"Rangers have a lot of games to play because you think they will stay in Europe, which is great for them.

"I have joked before about Rangers having 800 midfielders but that's exactly what they need.

"They are playing well and they have a lot of players in form. So if they want to fight on three fronts then they can.

"More games will always tire you out but I think they can deal with it.

"Whether they can win all of those competitions, we will have to see. I would be worried about the league if I was them.

"I can see them fielding some weaker sides and dropping points in the league if they keep going in Europe."

Rangers can expect Red Star to threaten in Thursday’s (17 March) away leg after the side had three goals ruled out at Ibrox.

The Gers are next in league action against Dundee on 20 March.
