Celtic player ratings v Hibernian: Midfield duo 4/10 in nervy Parkhead clash

Celtic huffed and puffed their way to a 2-2 draw with Neil Lennon's Hibernian side at Parkhead on Saturday afternoon.

Brendan Rodgers made five changes to the side who faced Anderlecht in midweek with Jozo Simunovic, Scott Brown, Leigh Griffiths, Scott Sinclair and Patrick Roberts all dropping out for Johnny Hayes, James Forrest, Callum McGregor, Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard.

Doubles for Callum McGregor and John McGinn cancelled each other out as Celtic extended their unbeaten domestic run to 58 games.

The Hoops will be glad to have escaped with a point and will have Craig Gordon to thank after the keeper pulled off a fantastic stop to deny Steven Whittaker.

Neil Lennon came so close to ending Celtic's run on his return to Parkhead as a manager but will have to settle for a point after a late equaliser from McGregor.

Celtic

Couldn't do much about either of Hibs' goals but a fine display from Gordon.

Pulled off a fantastic stop from Steven Whittaker in the second-half and rarely looked troubled apart from the goals.

Without Gordon between the sticks, the Hoops's 58-game streak could easily have come to an end against Lennon's Hibs.

Played perfectly well in the first-half but struggled a bit after the break.

Made a few clumsy challenges and gifted Hibs an opportunity but a decent afternoon for the stand-in captain.

Doesn't look totally comfortable as part of a back three though and more suited to right-back.

Played at the heart of Celtic's back-three and did well.

Fantastic challenge on Martin Boyle denied a great chance for Hibs but should have done better to close down McGinn for the visitor's equaliser.

Another who seems more suited to a back four rather than a three-man defence.

International break should give him an opportunity to sharpen up.

Brillant pass in the lead-up to the opener.

Tried to get forward regularly before being moved in to central defence.

Young defender has a fantastic engine and constanty pushes his teammates on.

Worked hard throughout and never really put a foot wrong.

Started off well and looked much more like the player he is expected to be in the first-half.

Brutal in the second-half with some shocking passing and poor positioning.

The midfielder really needs to find some consistency, especially now Scott Brown is injured.

International break has probably come at the right time for Rodgers and his squad.

Not sure what happened on Saturday but a pretty awful performance from an in-form player, who is the second midfielder with a 4/10 rating.

Gave away silly fouls and lost the ball far too easily.

Struggled to get by his man going forward and simply didn't offer enough.

Being in and out of the team so often may not help.

Best game in a Celtic shirt but it's not exactly a high bar.

Tried to get forward but made too many silly mistakes.

Still something of a baffling signing by Rodgers in all honesty.

Was he signed to strengthen the Hoops or weaken Aberdeen?

Celtic

Worked hard and showed glimpses of his undoubted skill in possession.

Flitted in and out of the game though ad didn't show enough to really make a major contribution.

Running suited Celtic's counter-attacks as they tried to get in behind Hibs at pace.

Super run and finish after Dembele did well holding the ball up. .

Maturing as a player and showed his strength to skip past players and hold the ball up to bring others into play.

Another cool finish to level the game for Celtic with just under 15 minutes to go.

Celtic's best player.

Moussa Dembele - 6

Frenchman lasted an hour in his latest return to the starting XI

Shot well over the bar from a free-kick.

Good hold up play in the build up to McGregor’s goal. Linked up with Sinclair a few times early in the second half.

Did very little else in the game and still looks off the pace having recovered from a hamstring injury.

Odsonne Edouard - 5

Hooked at half-time after a lack-lustre performance.

Can't think of anything real contribution other than running into space well.

Hardly set the world alight after his loan move from Paris Saint-Germain.

Maybe he'll get better after the international break

Scott Sinclair - 7

Came on for Edouard at half-time.

Linked up well with Dembele but just drifted offside in the first attack in the second half.

Brought a bit of urgency to Celtic’s attacking play getting at Whittaker.

Could’ve had a penalty late on after being pulled back by Ambrose.

Leigh Griffiths - 6

Crossed the ball in for McGregor's equaliser but pretty anonymous after coming on.

Patrick Roberts - 6

Came on with 20 minutes left but didn't really have much time to get involved in the game.
