Celtic victims of major injustice as Sead Haksabanovic controversy analysed - pundit

Celtic should have been awarded a penalty in their League Cup defeat to Kilmarnock.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Rangers defender Alan Hutton said the Hoops were "unlucky" to not be awarded a spot kick in their 1-0 loss to Killie on Sunday (20 August).

Sead Haksabanovic went down in the box in the final moments of the Viaplay Cup last 16 tie at Rugby Park with the Hoops trailing a goal.

No penalty was awarded and the VAR officials did not feel referee Alan Muir had made a clear and obvious error that needed overturned.

The Celts went on to lose the game and exit the Viaplay Cup.

When asked if the Hoops should have had a penalty, Hutton told Football Insider: "After watching it a few times probably.

"After the first couple I did not think it was, I thought Mayo maybe got a little touch on it but Haksabanovic gets there first, there is contact.

"It is subjective, it depends how you look at it and it is one of those difficult ones that could go either way. I am pretty sure every Celtic fan thought it was a penalty and I probably think it just is.

"So I do think they were unlucky not to get a penalty there."

The Hoops have massively struggled with injuries in recent weeks with as many as six first team stars sidelined, including Cameron Carter-Vickers and Reo Hatate.

They face Rangers at Ibrox next weekend (3 September) after welcoming St Johnstone to Parkhead this Saturday (26 August).
