Chelsea fans have labelled the referees and VAR officials "corrupt" after they were denied a penalty in their Premier League clash v Liverpool.

Enzo Maresca's side fell to a frustrating 2-1 defeat at Anfield in a game which was shrouded by controversial decisions on both sides.

Mohamed Salah gave the hosts the lead from the spot after 29 minutes, before Nicolas Jackson equalised shortly after half-time, and Curtis Jones scored the winner in the 51st minute.

However, prior to Salah's opener, Chelsea fans were convinced Jadon Sancho was fouled by Trent Alexander-Arnold in front of the Kop end.

Footage of the incident was quickly shared on social media, showing the right-back had stood on the foot of the Blues' winger, but no penalty was awarded.

However, it seemingly went unchecked by VAR and unnoticed by the on-field referee John Brooks, leaving the travelling supporters astonished.

An early opening goal for the Blues would have put them in control of what was a game packed with incidents, but they were denied that opportunity.

The weekend's football contained plenty of controversy once again, as title-contenders Man City were awarded a 97th-minute winner despite a VAR check, leaving supporters raging.

Now, it was Chelsea fans' turn to express their anger via social media as they labelled the Premier League and VAR "corrupt", while insisting their side was "robbed".
