Pedro Chirivella has revealed his delight at seeing teammate Joe Gomez back in Liverpool training, following a year-long battle with injury.

The versatile defender has been out of the side since October 2015 after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament with England Under-21's, before suffering a further setback in July with an achilles problem.

Young teammate Chirivella revealed his pride after Gomez recovered, stating he was "so happy" for the former Charlton defender on his personal Twitter account.

The England Under-21's international could be set for a return to first-team action sooner rather than later, with James Milner out of position at left back and Mamadou Sakho continuing to be frozen out by Klopp.

Following a £4million move to Liverpool back in the summer of 2015, Gomez was fast-tracked into the first team last season as ex-manager Brendan Rodgers threw him in at the deep end.

But after impressing in seven league and cup appearances, injury struck.

Liverpool are preparing to face bitter rivals Manchester United on Monday night, as they look to secure their sixth Premier League win of the season in just eight games.
