Connor Goldson 'lucky' as Rangers controversy analysed by pundit
Rangers defender Connor Goldson could have conceded a penalty on Eintracht Frankfurt striker Rafael Santos Borre in the Europa League final, according to Paul Robinson.
The former Spurs and England number one, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, said Goldson, 29, was "lucky" not to make more contact on Borre, 26, in the early stages of the second half.
Borre went to ground upon a challenge from Goldson in the 52-minute of the Europa League final.
Eintracht Frankfurt players and fans appealed for a penalty but referee Slavko Vincic pointed for a corner rather than to the spot.
Rangers went on to lose on penalties in Seville after Aaron Ramsey's tame spot-kick was saved by Kevin Trapp.
When asked by Football Insider for his assessment of Goldson's challenge on Borre, Robinson said: "I thought there were a couple of incidents where VAR could have got involved but didn't.
"There was certainly a couple of penalty shouts for Eintracht Frankfurt I thought.
"Goldson was lucky that he didn't make more contact on Borre because it was a risky challenge. It didn't get looked at for too long though.
"I wonder whether that would have been followed up had it been in the Premier League."
Giovanni van Bronckhorst's side are back in cup final action this weekend.
The Gers travel to Hampden Park on Saturday for the Scottish Cup final against Hearts.
