Atletico Madrid are growing in confidence in their bid to beat Aston Villa and Tottenham to the signing of Chelsea star Conor Gallagher, sources have told Football Insider.

Reports have suggested the 24-year-old has sounded out friends and colleagues for advice on a potential move to Spain.

And sources have told Football Insider that Chelsea are reluctantly ready to sell Gallagher with no progress made in discussions over a new contract.

The England international's current deal is set to expire in less than 12 months and the Blues are not ready to let him leave on a free transfer in 2025.

Football Insider revealed on Saturday (27 July) Aston Villa are still interested in signing Chelsea’s Gallagher this summer.

Tottenham and Newcastle have also held an interest in the 24-year-old.

However, it is Atletico Madrid who are now set to swoop in and take Gallagher away from Stamford Bridge this summer - but they must first agree a fee with Chelsea.

The midfielder started 37 of a possible 38 Premier League games in the 2023-24 campaign and made 50 appearances in total, notching seven goals and nine assists.

He also turned out five times for finalists England at Euro 2024.

Gallagher has notched 10 goals and 10 assists across 95 appearances for his boyhood club since making the grade at senior level for the Blues.
