Djed Spence caused a stir on social media as Thomas Frank's Tottenham squad prepares for a North London derby against Arsenal.

Two separate teams faced Wycombe Wanderers and Luton Town on Saturday, 26 July, drawing with both outfits before jetting out to Singapore to face their fierce rivals on Thursday, 31 July.

The pre-season trip to Asia creates a lot of profit for Daniel Levy's club, but with another Premier League campaign on the horizon, fans will be keeping a close eye on any injury updates.

Injuries were the main downfall of Ange Postecoglou's end last season because, even after lifting the Europa League title against Man United, his side's 15th-place finish in the Premier League saw him sacked.

Tottenham open training to excited supporters

In an attempt to draw more supporters to the games in Asia, the Lilywhites made their training public, allowing fans to watch, film, and enjoy the players first-hand, which they would not normally get.

Of course, player safety is always a first thought, though that cannot be said for young full-back Spence, who drew a lot of criticism online for his actions during the training session.

The 24-year-old went crashing into a challenge on Pedro Porro, previously linked with Man City, leaving the Spaniard crumpled in a pile on the floor, and not many fans laughing.

While Pedro remained off the treatment table for much of the 2024/25 campaign, the medical team will not want to take any chances ahead of the new campaign.

Djed Spence at the centre of pre-season controversy

Reacting to the footage, one Tottenham supporter called the challenge "crazy", while another labelled the entire situation as "shocking" after the player walked away instead of making sure his teammate was fine.

However, once the dust settled, most fans made jokes about Spence attempting to win his spot in the starting lineup for next season by taking out his only competition in the squad.
