Danny Ings has been reportedly training with Sheffield United following his release from West Ham United at the end of last season.

The 33-year-old spent the last three seasons at the London Stadium but failed to make any regular first team appearances with the Hammers.

The former Liverpool forward only made 11 Premier League starts in three seasons, playing a total of 69 matches between 2022 and 2025.

Danny Ings set to make return after heading to Sheffield United

Ings has had an up-and-down career, but the former Southampton and Aston Villa man has hit the 20 goal mark on two separate occasions, once in the Championship with Burnley and once with Southampton in the Premier League.

Mike McGrath took to X (formerly Twitter) to reveal: "Sheffield United will look to add to their squad in coming days.

"Ben Mee, Danny Ings and Nathan Redmond have been training with Sheffield United with a view to deals if they fit with Ruben Selles' plans," McGrath added.

Mee and Redmond are also without clubs having been released by Brentford and Burnley this summer respectively.

Sheffield United need to forget playoff heartache and move on under Ruben Selles

Football Insider verdict

After the heartache of losing a playoff final it can be easy to let the emotions takeover, as well as the physical hangover, and as a result club's struggle to bounce back.

This has been no different for the Blades who find themselves languishing at the foot of the Championship with no points from their first three games.

It's been a tough start for new manager Ruben Selles but reinforcements with Premier League experience may be what the Spaniard needs.

Key man Gustavo Hamer remains at the club and exciting talent Louie Barry will add some flair to Selles' attack alongside Tyrese Campbell but the loss of Anel Ahmedhodzic and Vini Souza will sting.

Selles' side face a tough trip to second in the table Middlesborough before the international break and a positive result is crucial if they aren't to fall away fom the leading pack too early in the campaign.
