Newcastle United fans think Eddie Howe could be the top choice to take over from Gareth Southgate should he step down as England manager.

England fell to a 2-1 defeat against Spain in the Euro 2024 final, with many calling for Southgate to step down after a defeat in consecutive Euros finals.

As a result, talk has already begun about who would be next in line for the job, with Howe tipped by many as the ideal replacement.

Plenty of Newcastle fans have confessed they could now see the boss walking away to take the job, although the fanbase was not in complete agreement.

Howe has previously suggested he would prefer not to walk away from day-to-day club management, while his project at St James' Park has not reached its conclusion.

That hasn't stopped the rumours, though, with his name mentioned alongside Graham Potter as the most likely to pick up the mantle from Southgate.

Howe led Newcastle to Champions League football in 2022-23 and has managed a huge turnaround at St James' Park, but supporters fear his head could be turned.

Other supporters, however, were confident they could keep hold of the boss.
