Everton are at “huge” risk of receiving yet another points deduction next season following their difficult financial situation, sources have told Football Insider. 

Speaking on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, senior correspondent Pete O’Rourke revealed he doesn’t believe the profit and sustainability (PSR) charges are going away any time soon for the Toffees. 

Everton have been hit with two separate points deductions this season for breaching the Premier League’s spending rules, resulting in them being docked eight points overall. 

The Blues are currently in dispute with the governing body regarding the status of certain costs associated with the building of their new stadium on Bramley-Moore Dock and face a further independent committee hearing later this year. 

Everton could be forced to sell star players this summer

O’Rourke admitted there are worries over the Toffees’ financial situation after prospective owners 777 Partners have loaned the club more than £200million to ensure the day-to-day operational costs could be paid. 

But Football Insider revealed on 10 May the US investment firm’s takeover will not be completed despite talks around the deal continuing to drag on at Goodison Park. 

There will be concerns on Merseyside about a further points deduction heading the clubs way after the punishments this season saw them flirting with the relegation zone for a number of months.

An upturn in form towards the end of the campaign has ensured Sean Dyche’s side will be playing in the top flight again come August.

But O’Rourke revealed Everton could be forced to sell some of their star players before they file their accounts at the end of June to help balance the books. 

Jarrod Branthwaite and Amadou Onana are the players most likely to receive the most attention after attracting interest from several top clubs in recent months.
