Ex-FIFA official expects '7-0' results as Gianni Infantino's grubby World Cup plan revealed

Gianni Infantino is only thinking financially as FIFA consider expanding the number of nations at the 2030 World Cup.

That is according to former PGMOL chief and ex-FIFA referee, Keith Hackett, who exclusively told Football Insider that there are plenty of positives and negatives about the future plans.

Infantino, the head of FIFA, has confirmed that a further 16 teams could be added to the next World Cup, with a total of 64 teams across six countries.

Uruguay, Argentina and Paraguay are set to host one game each to kick off the tournament, before Portugal, Spain and Morocco host the remaining matches.

That split has already created a divide amongst potential match-going fans, especially when this summer's ticket prices have been taken into account.

Now, Infantino is being accused of money-grabbing as plans are already being weighed up ahead of the next tournament in four year's time.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Hackett, while he can see the cons of an expanded World Cup, is also excited by the prospect.

"This is all about a commercial grab. This is putting at risk or, if you like, opening the door to 5-0, 6-0, 7-0 results," he said.

"I think only the best should go to the World Cup. This expansion has proved to be the right one. I think we've enjoyed a lot of games.

"This is a commercial take. I think it's great that other countries are getting the World Cup, in fairness. So as a fan, I don't mind him expanding it.

"So, long answer to the question? Bring it on. Let's have more teams. I don't have an issue. But you're the caretakers of the quality and standards that have to be upheld at a World Cup.

"And I think that's the question that you've raised, rightly raised. Is this going to diminish the quality?"

World Cup fans 'being conned' - Keith Hackett explodes at FIFA rules: 'It's a joke'

How have fans reacted to the head of FIFA's admission?

To put it simply, the reaction to the news has not been overall positive.

Many football fans feel that, as more teams are added to the tournament, the less prestigious it feels to qualify, and they're right.

Obviously, one supporter has taken the sarcastic route by suggesting that the next tournament will be hosted on Mars to "maximise intergalactic streaming revenue," but the point still stands.

Infantino is about to suck the life out of the World Cup, all in the name of money.
