Ex-Fifa official: Nottingham Forest set for probe after Premier League rule blatantly ignored
The Premier League will investigate Nottingham Forest after they showed a VAR replay on the big screen at the City Ground during their 2-2 draw with Brentford on Saturday (5 November).
That is the view of ex-Fifa and Premier League referee Keith Hackett, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the incident that "exposed" the match officials.
As shown on the BBC's Match of the Day programme, Dean Henderson's foul on Yoane Wissa was shown on the big screen after Andre Marriner had reviewed the footage on the pitchside monitor.
Marriner had initially waved away Brentford's appeals before he was instructed to review the incident.
The replays led to a major backlash from the Forest fans and Henderson who was fortunate not to be shown a second yellow card for his protest.
"This is not allowed," Hackett told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
"Therefore, I'm sure that Nottingham Forest will be asked for their observations, for sure.
"This is outside the remit of the use of the big screen.
"Obviously, match officials, generally, are against it being shown because it exposes the accuracy of their decision-making.
"Yes it would put match officials under pressure at that particular time but they are trained to cope with that.
"I think the whole process should follow Rugby Union's approach."
The draw for Forest leaves them bottom of the Premier League table and they are likely to go into the break into the World Cup there.
They host Crystal Palace at the City Ground on Saturday (12 November) in their final game before the tournament in Qatar.
