Ex-Premier League referee: Fabinho should get retrospective ban as 'violent' Liverpool footage emerges
Keith Hackett has called the FA to retrospectively ban Fabinho for his foul on Heung-min Son as Liverpool were held to a 1-1 draw by Tottenham on Saturday (7 May).
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Fifa and Premier League referee insisted Fabinho's "forearm smash" fulfilled the requirement for "violent" conduct.
In the 80th minute, the 28-year-old was shown a yellow card for a foul on Son in the middle of the pitch.
It came when the scores were level and Liverpool were looking for a winner that would have boosted their hopes of winning the Premier League title.
"That's a red card offence," Hackett said after analysing the footage with Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.
"Clearly that's a forearm smash. That's a red card and he should have gone.
"This is exactly what VAR is for. The referee has seen it so that means the FA should take further action and I doubt they will take any further action.
"However, it is that type of incident where the FA should take further action.
"For me, fulfils the VAR criteria of a clear and obvious error. As a consequence, VAR should have come in on that.
"I ask the question, how can a referee give a yellow card within the laws of the game for an offence that fulfils the criteria for violent conduct?"
A red card would have seen Fabinho banned for Liverpool's next three domestic games.
That includes Saturday's (14 May) FA Cup final with Chelsea at Wembley.
