Keith Hackett has insisted Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp should receive an extended touchline ban "at the minimum" after his antics during and after the win over Tottenham on Sunday (30 April).

The ex-Fifa and Premier League referee was speaking exclusively to Football Insider after Ref Support UK CEO Martin Cassidy spoke out to demand a "points deduction" for the Merseysiders.

This site revealed on Tuesday (2 May) that Liverpool boss Klopp is now set to land an extended touchline ban after he was charged by the FA for attacking the integrity of referee Paul Tierney in the aftermath of the Reds' 4-3 win over Tottenham on Sunday (30 April).

The German hit out at Tierney after being shown a yellow card for aggressively celebrating Diogo Jota’s injury-time winner in the face of fourth official John Brooks.

Klopp served a one-match touchline ban earlier this season after being sent off for remonstrating with assistant referee Gary Beswick during the win over Man City in October.

As quoted by the Liverpool Echo (2 May), the Reds boss has already spoken out to admit the situation "shouldn't have happened", insisting he acted "out of emotion".

Hackett told Football Insider’s Ewan Kingsbury: “Klopp has questioned the integrity of the match official and he’s rightly been charged.

“If there is a recording of what happened, that will be brought forward for the FA to see.

“I haven’t seen anyone supporting what Klopp did.

“It’s a passionate game, but it’s becoming an unwanted sideshow. I don’t mind managers showing passion, but you’ve got to stay in your technical area.

“I think he should get another, longer, touchline ban, at the minimum.

“The FA are in a slightly difficult position with the incident during the game as he was only issued a yellow card.”
