Aston Villa forward Rushian Hepburn-Murphy is in advanced talks to join Tranmere Rovers, Football Insider understands.

The Merseyside club are planning for life back in League One after winning promotion last term and have set their sights on the England Under-20 international.

A Villa source has told Football Insider the club feel Hepburn-Murphy's development would be best served by going out on loan again and negotiations are well underway over the terms of a move to Tranmere.

Hepburn-Murphy is likely to find his opportunities limited for Villa next season following their promotion to the Premier League.

The England Under-20 international spent the second half of last season out on loan at League Two Cambridge United, where he made 16 appearances, scoring two goals.

Hepburn-Murphy is highly rated at Villa having come through the ranks at the club and has already made 17 senior appearances despite his tender age.

Tranmere have been attracted by his explosiveness and ability to create and score goals, as well as play in a number of positions, including at centre-forward and on both flanks.

He is the second youngest player in Villa's history to play for the first-team after featuring against Sunderland in the Premier League at the age of 16 years and 176 days.
