Aston Villa are plotting a summer swoop to sign Leeds United striker Kemar Roofe, Football Insider understands.

Premier League-bound Villa are in the market for striking reinforcements with this season's top scorer Tammy Abraham returning to Chelsea following his successful loan spell at Villa Park.

A Villa source has told Football Insider the club are drawing up a list of targets as they prepare for life back in the Premier League and Roofe figures highly on their wanted list.

Roofe scored one of his 15 goals this season in Leeds' 3-2 win over Villa last December and Villa believe he could make the step up to the Premier League.

The 26-year-old is entering the final year of his contract at Elland Road and a number of clubs have been monitoring his contract situation.

Leeds are keen to keep hold of Roofe, but know they risk losing their best players following their failure to win promotion from the Championship this season.

Villa are now ready to test Leeds' resolve to keep hold of Roofe and they could be forced to cash-in on him if he fails to agree a new deal rather than risk allowing him to run down his contract.
