Exclusive: David Moyes ally reveals his 'first task' after Everton agreement

David Moyes' first task as Everton manager will be to find a consistent source of goals after the Toffees' struggles in the final third this season.

This is according to former West Ham and Man United scout Mick Brown, who worked closely with Moyes at the London Stadium, as he exclusively told Football Insider that he does not believe the new boss will make major changes from Sean Dyche's style.

Everton's defensive stability under their former boss had never been questioned, having kept clean sheets against Arsenal, Chelsea and Newcastle already this season.

However, they have scored just 15 goals in 19 Premier League games so far and had failed to score in eight of their last ten games under Dyche's management.

Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Beto, the club's leading strikers, have found the net just five times in a combined 33 games across all competitions this season.

As a result, Brown has insisted Moyes must find a solution to their struggles in front of goal if he wants to help steer them clear of the relegation zone.

Brown previously told Football Insider that Everton could enter the January transfer market in search of a more clinical striker given their issues under Dyche.

Now, the former scout who has a wealth of experience working closely with top-level managers including both Sir Alex Ferguson and Ron Atkinson at Man United, insisted they must step up their attacking efforts or risk being relegated.

"I have to say, I have great respect for David," he told Football Insider.

"But how big a step forward is he from Sean Dyche in terms of his style of play?

"They're one point above the relegation zone.

"Moysey's first job is to improve and build on their goalscoring ability.

"It's never been suggested that that is one of his strengths as a manager, it's why West Ham wanted him out, because of his pragmatic style.

"So I wouldn't expect him to change much in terms of what Dyche was doing, he's going to keep that defensive stability which has been the foundation of their game.

"But he must make sure he gets them firing up front, because that's the reason they are where they are.

"It'll be very interesting to watch how that pans out."
