Exclusive: English clubs race to sign Rangers 23-yr-old after Ibrox board green light
Rangers have given George Edmundson the green light to leave on loan when the transfer window opens on Friday, Football Insider can exclusively reveal.
The 23-year-old is the subject of interest from a number of Championship and League One clubs in England.
A source at Ibrox has told Football Insider that the board are ready to listen to offers for the defender with an early-window move possible.
Edmundson still has three years remaining on his contract at Ibrox having penned a four-year deal upon his arrival from Oldham Athletic in July 2019.
However, his only appearance for the Gers this season came in a 5-0 thrashing of Lincoln FC in Europa League qualifying.
The centre-half has not played since September, in part, due to a seven game suspension he was handed by the Scottish FA for breaching Covid regulations with teammate Jordan Jones.
Gers boss Steven Gerrard condemned the pair's actions and neither have played for the club since.
Football Insider understands that Jones could also be on the move next month with Middlesbrough keeping tabs on the winger's situation.
Rangers plan to offload the 26-year-old in January if a suitable offer arrives.
At the club's AGM earlier this month, managing director Stewart Robertson admitted that the player sales would be needed over the next 12 months to balance the books.
Edmundson and Jones are two of the most likely to leave in the January window, whether that be on temporary or permanent deals.
