Ipswich Town have opened talks to sign Nottingham Forest midfielder Liam Bridcutt, Football Insider can reveal.

The experienced campaigner, 29, is being lined up for a loan move to Forest's Championship rivals for the second half of the campaign.

Ipswich boss Paul Lambert is desperate to bolster his squad when the transfer window reopens and he has made Scotland international Bridcutt one of his top targets.

Former Leeds midfielder Bridcutt is well down the pecking order in Aitor Karanka's plans and the manager is willing to let the 29-year-old move on.

Bridcutt has made only one brief substitute's performance in the Championship so far this season with another three appearance in the League Cup.

Former Chelsea youngster Bridcutt is keen to move on in January in search of regular first-team football and Ipswich are ready to offer him that opportunity.

Ipswich chief Lambert sees the player's experience and midfield guile as a key addition to his plans as he looks to lead his side away from bottom of the Championship.
