Exclusive: Leeds senior man in advanced talks to join big rivals
Leeds United Under-23s boss Carlos Corberan is in pole position to be appointed the new Huddersfield manager, Football Insider can reveal.
But the man in the driving seat to land the job permanently is Spaniard Corberan.
A Huddersfield source has told Football Insider that the 37-year-old is in advanced talks to take over the club.
He could be appointed later this week after their Championship campaign ends on Wednesday.
Huddersfield yesterday dismissed Danny Cowley just two days after Friday's win over second-placed West Brom all but secured the club's second tier survival.
The Terriers, who went down from the Premier League last term, hinted they already had a successor in place by revealing they are "not seeking applications" for the job.
Former Aston Villa and Bournemouth captain Elphick is set to be named caretaker boss but Corberan has now leapfrogged him in the race to secure the job permanently.
He has spent the last three years at Leeds, simultaneously learning his trade managing their Under-23s while also working with the first team as an assistant to Marcelo Bielsa.
The Cowleys only lost one of their last six matches in charge, in which they also kept four clean sheets.
That run has left the Terriers 18th in the Championship, three points above the relegation zone with a goal difference 14 better than 22nd-placed Luton.
