Celtic have slapped an astonishing £40million price tag on Odsonne Edouard as they make it clear they have no intention of selling him this summer, Football Insider understands.

The Hoops hierarchy are adamant they will keep hold of their prize asset as they prepare for their tilt at a historic 10-in-a-row.

A Celtic source has told Football Insider that club chiefs are going to great lengths to block the sale of Edouard.

The board are aware the in-demand striker, 22, could be the difference between securing a remarkable 10th consecutive title or falling short.

That is why Premier League and top European clubs who want to sign Edouard will be told his value is £40m.

That is remarkable given a post-pandemic market in which transfer prices have already showed signs of tumbling.

Liverpool refused to pay the £53m release clause needed to sign Timo Werner earlier this summer and players being quoted as £40m assets earlier this year are now valued by their clubs at nearly half that.

Celtic have long regarded Edouard as a massive talent capable of reaching rare heights.

He is seen as more valuable than their two record sales, Kieran Tierney (£25million) and Moussa Dembele (£19million), each of whom left in the previous two windows.

Edouard signed a four-year contract in the summer of 2018 when his initial season-long loan from Paris Saint-Germain was converted into a club-record £9million transfer.

His 45 Celtic appearances last season yielded 27 goals and 19 assists while he also banged in a remarkable 11 goals in just six France Under-21s matches.
