Nottingham Forest are ready to axe a host of senior first-team stars in a major overhaul this summer, Football Insider sources understands.

Up to as many as nine players have been told by Forest boss Aitor Karanka that they do not figure in his plans going forward at the City Ground.

A well-placed source has told Football Insider that the likes of Michael Mancienne, Barrie McKay, Liam Bridcutt, Stefanos Kapino, Daryl Murphy and Apostolos Vellios are among the players who have been informed they can move on.

Karanka is planning a major overhaul at Forest this summer as he prepares for his first full season in charge of the club.

Karanka is looking to make room in his squad for new additions and he is prepared to let go a number of his top earners to raise funds for his transfer plans.

Forest finished in 17th place in the Championship this season and Karanka feels big decisions need to be made on the squad if they are to challenge for promotion next season.
